3 Good Reasons to Stop Touching Your Face
(WellnessPursuits.com) – Your face isn’t just there for looks. As a matter of fact, it does a lot for you. It’s the focal point for multiple senses, serves as a pathway for the air you breathe, and is critical for your ability to eat and drink. Of course, the fact that your face serves so many purposes also makes it vulnerable.
One of the best things you can do to protect your face, and your health, is to stop touching it. Here are three good reasons why.
1. The Spread of Disease
We all tend to rub our eyes or noses, especially during allergy, cold and flu season. Touching your eyes, nose, and mouth increases your risk of exposing your delicate mucous membranes to the bacteria and viruses you are carrying on your hands. Those membranes are a sensitive entry points and can easily absorb bacteria and viruses that will grow in your body.
The other issue is that you naturally carry different forms of bacteria in your mouth and nose. While some are beneficial, not all are. Not only do you risk picking up bad bacteria from other people and introducing it to your body, you can spread anything you’re carrying when you touch your face and then put your hands on other objects. You can even spread cold, flu and coronaviruses around before you are showing symptoms of an illness.
2. Worsening Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Any time you press, rub, or tug on any part of your face, you push those lines a little more. You should be especially careful when removing eye makeup or contact lenses, since both can cause unnecessary pulling on the skin around the eyes, worsening bags and wrinkles.
3. Preventing or Reducing Acne
Anything that can increase the amount of oil on your face can also increase your chances of having an acne breakout. You can introduce new oil simply by touching your face with your fingers, and you can redeposit old oil from your face by holding your telephone against it. If you need to touch your face, wash your hands with soap first.
Your face is an important part of your overall health, and also a reflection of it. By leaving your face alone, you can protect your health and the health of others while reducing the appearance of acne and premature lines. Just can’t seem to leave your face alone? Ask your doctor to help you treat your sinuses and itchy eyes more effectively. The sooner you stop touching your face, the better.
